Checking out NY NOW

This past weekend, Nicole (of Nicole's Threads) and I headed to the big city to check out the Mothership of all wholesale trade shows: NY NOW. The first step of deciding whether you want to exhibit at a show or not is by doing a walk through to scope it out. We got to be buyers for Nicole's mom who has a lovely shop (she carries my work!) in Dallas, PA called Earth and Wears (thanks Lyn!). Still we felt totally out of our element and like we didn't belong there. Talk about being a tiny minnow in a vast sea. Everything about this seemed overwhelming. It didn't help that we flew there on the 6am flight and had to get up at 4am, setting the tone for the trip as a bit of weary one.
Blurry eyed and heading to the airtrain at 7:30 am
It was cold and dreary but exciting to be in the city.
Our room at Yotel was like living in an Ipad. Very funky and futuristic.
Ready to hit the show!
This awesome erector set thing is the Yobot and it will store your stuff for you at Yotel. So cool.
We enjoyed this little cafe on the way...
This is one corner of one floor of the show. The aisles go on forever and each floor of the Javits center is GIANT. Sensory overload to max.
Found my friend Tabbatha (Tabbatha Henry Designs) in the Handmade section. So cool to see her all set up there and killin' it.
Also finally got to meet and hang with Christine of Chocolate and Steel who was also killin' it. So great to spend time with her later and pick her brain. Had fun meeting up with friends Rachel and Nicolette from Sweet Lady Jane and Trinket for drinks and getting more advice from the buyer's perspective. Now Sweet lady Jane is going to be carrying Christine's work - yay for networking!
Our plane got cancelled due to weather so we had an extra night and got to spend time chatting with friends and folks at the bar. We met Fran and Jim from Rich Frog in Winooski - small world!
Now just trying to process it all and then the decision of whether to apply to the show...

Our flight was rescheduled for an entire day later and we needed to get back so we rented a car and headed home but we did make one small (big) stop at IKEA to buy desks! I finally bought the standing/sitting desk I've been looking at and I can't wait to put it together.  Check it out:

Gonna be doing some rearranging to replace my desk and make it fit in my studio... so much to do and so much to think about!

Happenings

It's easy to never leave the house in winter, or at least not leave often. Working from home, days can blur together into a sea of chain and beads and earring parts and bits of wire. Not being a fan of the cold and this being an especially long (LOOOONG) winter, I was happy to get out and about a bit this past week.
Yesterday I had the fun of modeling a few things for Nicole's Threads. Like this dress, which I completely must have. I just pre-ordered one and you can too HERE. There are 4 rad colors to choose from. Note: Yay I'm not quite as pale as the wall! Also I'm wearing my Kyanite Necklace.
A few days ago, I posted these earrings on Facebook and within 2 days 7 pairs had sold! These were inspired by Rachel Cloutier (owner of Sweet Lady Jane and Trinket). They are hammered and oxidized brass with sterling and brass chain. They are super long, very swingy and shimmery, light and free, still edgy and mysterious...and very rock and roll. Find them in my Etsy Shop
or at Trinket.
Last week I did a little trip South. You can now find my work at the Shoe Horn in Montpelier! Not only do they have a wonderful shoe selection, they have a large variety of clothing that's both fashionable and comfortable. I put together this custom display for them, it really shows off the earrings well. Here Marin is receiving the first batch!
I also stopped by the Stoweflake Spa. Elements, the Spa boutique carries the best products and features many Vermont made lines such as: Lunaroma, Way Out Wax and VT Artisan Tea Co. In May they will be carrying my wholesale line! When I first saw this great shop I thought my Chakra wraps would fit in perfectly and I'm so excited to work with the lovely staff.
Mel and Juliana from the Stoweflake spa modeling their new earrings!
If you haven't seen me posting about the contest I'm currently in (which is probably not possible cause I've been shoutin' it from the rooftops!) You can read about it HERE. And if you've been voting for me, THANK YOU!!! So much! You can keep voting once a day until April 4th.

Not much else to report, just trying to make it through the Arctic tundra that is VT and longing for spring. The lake is still frozen and my bones are a bit creaky but I am gettin' a lot of work done...

Sweet Sweet Lady!

It's that time again - time for my annual Holiday Trunk Show at Sweet Lady Jane! This year will be extra special...
Such a funny top, that would definitely come in handy. I spent some time in the shop today with the lovely Erica and we styled  some outfits with my jewelry in anticipation of my trunk show.
As soon as I walked in I noticed this leopard coat and sequin dress, both by BB Dakota. Kinda want the dress for New Year's!
It paired nicely with my new Ladder necklace and my Reversible Stitched Crescent Necklace (shown here with the brass side up) and my new Charmed pendant (silver side up).
How cute is this little Free People cardigan? It has a reindeer design on each side and the back. Love the mustard color.
Erica layered it up with my brass Relic necklace (she owns one of them and says she wears it all the time!), my Gold Third Eye Chakra necklace and my sterling hammered Bar necklace.
This super cozy black Kensie vest on this grey flowy cotton Free People top was just begging for a little color.
We added my new Modern Tribe necklace, a reversible Stitched Crescent pendant (silver side up), my sterling Wishbone pendant and my new Charmed necklace (gold side up).
The store is looking super cute and festive, I can't wait to spend the day Saturday. Hope to see you there!

Happenings...

This past Thursday, Rachel had a fashion event at Sweet Lady Jane featuring Covet (a fabulous eco-friendly clothing line) and my jewelry. My work showed really well on Covet's flowing fabrics of solid color. You can see Brett Lupfer's amazing photos HERE. These four close-ups of Kate wearing my big earrings look like they're out of a magazine!

In other news: I was mentioned on Vermont Edition on VPR by a kind and lovely customer on Wednesday. They had Martha Fitch, Executive Director of the Vermont Crafts Council and Anne Majusiak, curator for the State Of Craft Exhibit at the Bennington Museum on to talk about the craft movement in VT. You can hear the whole show HERE or just the snippet HERE.

Also, I've been running a local (to Burlington, VT) promotion: "Get caught!!!" After noticing a lot of lovely ladies sportin' my wares around town, I was inspired to reward this patronage with a discount towards jewelry purchased during the month of October. I've assembled a street team and they're on the lookout. Get "caught" in
Jennifer Kahn Jewelry and get 20% off your next piece (redeemable at the Burlington Artist's Market or online in my Etsy Shop).

Solstice Pendant, exclusively for the Sweet Lady Jane Trunk Show

The word "Solstice" is derived from two Latin words: "sol" meaning sun, and "sistere," to stand still.  As the darkest time of the year falls upon us, we can be reminded that very soon the days will grow longer and the sun will slowly come back into our lives. This is the Solstice Pendant that I will be selling exclusively at the Sweet Lady Jane Trunk Show. I just made a small batch and its first come first serve till they're gone! It is pure silver with 24k gold on top. It features a spiraled sun on the front and the back is signed. It comes on a red silk cord. It will be offered at a special show price.

Trunk Show at Sweet Lady Jane!

I'm so excited about this show!  I had one there last year and it was so much fun.  It is such a beautiful boutique and the staff is so sweet.  I'm working on a limited edition pendant that I'll sell exclusively at this show so stay tuned for more on that...

New Bronze pieces in my Etsy Shop

The Women's Festival of Crafts was great.  I made soooooo much work to get ready for that show and now I'm able to put some stuff in my Etsy shop.  I added about 20 pieces today.  I can't believe it's December now.  Sheesh.  No time to rest, gotta get ready for my Trunk Show at Sweet Lady Jane on Dec 13th.  More on that soon...
